ONLINE TRAFFIC SCHOOL IN CALIFORNIA
The California Online Traffic School Traffic101.com course is separated into 4 sections that are each
followed by a short quiz. These quizzes prepare you for a final exam as required by your California court.
You must score at least 80% on the final exam in order to pass the course. If you don’t pass on your
first try, you can retake the final exam as many times as you need at no additional cost. And with our
Pay Later option you can start the course now before making payment.
Most of our California defensive driving school courses are self-paced, which means that the time it takes
to finish the course depends on the speed of the reader. You can go through the course online, at your own
pace, any day or time you want. You can also leave the course at any time and continue later from where
you left off. You can review previously completed sections at any time, and all tests are open book.

IS TRAFFIC101.COM AN APPROVED ONLINE TRAFFIC SCHOOL?
Traffic101.com is approved by the individual courts of California and appears in almost every traffic
school directory in California.
Below are links to the most popular traffic school online lists. Traffic101.com is court approved on both
the California online traffic school (Internet) lists and the California take home traffic school directory (workbook).
CALIFORNIA TRAFFIC SCHOOL - HOW OFTEN CAN YOU GO?
You can take traffic school once every 18 months. When you take a traffic school course for a California
ticket, the court notifies the California DMV both of the ticket and the traffic school completion. This
means that the ticket is confidential on your DMV record and your auto insurance company can’t see it.
Not taking a traffic school course means that the ticket is not masked from your auto insurance provider.
This can significantly raise your rates.
If you take traffic school again within the 18 months, you will not receive credit unless the judge has
specifically allowed it. The judge may, at his discretion, order you to take a Stage II (12-hour) traffic
school for a second ticket within 18 months. This second ticket will appear as a ticket dismissed and
your auto insurance company will have access to this information.
There are a few other requirements you must also meet in order to be eligible to take traffic school.
If any of these is true for your situation, you will NOT be able to take traffic school. Contact your
court to find out your options.
- You do not have a valid driver’s license
- You have passed the due date for paying the traffic ticket
- The infraction was for more than 1 point
- The infraction included a drug or alcohol charge
- You were speeding by more than 25 mph
- You hold a commercial driver’s license
Out-of-state convictions for California drivers: If you get a ticket in another state, the District of Columbia,
Puerto Rico or Canada, and don’t arrange to have it dismissed through that court, they will report the ticket to
the CA DMV. The CA DMV will add the necessary points to your driving record.
Out-of-state drivers: If you get a ticket while driving though California, the court where you got
your ticket will report the offense to your home state. Depending on your home state, you may be eligible
to take traffic school online.
I GOT A TICKET, WHAT DO I DO NOW?
If you get a traffic ticket and want to take the Traffic101.com course, you should wait to receive the
“Courtesy Notice” from the court. This courtesy notice will tell you if you are eligible to take traffic
school. Let the court know that you will be taking a traffic school course for this citation. You will be
required to pay the court for the citation amount and a non-refundable administrative fee. When the court
receives payment, they will provide you with a list of approved traffic schools and a due date by which you
must complete your course. Then click on Register Now, to begin!
